Recognizing the significant contribution of public education in the over-all efforts towards development and empowerment, Mayor Boyet V. Masilang recently launched his administration’s Classroom Project for Public Elementary and Secondary Schools. Utilizing the Municipal Government’s Special Education Fund or SEF, Mayor Masilang initiated the construction of eight (8) new classrooms (CL’s) for two (2) Secondary Schools and four (4) Elementary Schools. The project was intended to augment the existing facilities of the said public schools and in the process enhance their capability to ensure quality public education.
Canda National High School (CNHS) and Lutucan National High School (LNHS) Banahaw Extension each received two (2) CL’s. Also included in the first batch of project beneficiaries were Castañas Elementary School with one (1) CL and Guisguis Talon Elementary School Annex with two (2) CL’s. The total project cost of the first eight (8) CL’s amounted to One Million Nine Hundred Seventy Four Thousand and Three Hundred Fifty-Eight Pesos and Thirty Centavos (Php 1,974,358.30).
Blessing and Inauguration Rites for the project have already been held in each of the recipient schools. The most recent rite was held on October 21, 2008 in Castañas Elementary School. School Heads, teachers, students and Parents Teachers Community Association (PTCA) Officers were very thankful to Mayor Masilang for the project as it would certainly address concerns on adequate school facilities. Barangay officials where the CL’s were constructed were also thankful to the Local Chief Executive’s concrete efforts for Sariaya’s different schools.
Aside from the CL project, school clinics will also be constructed both at the Sariaya East and West Districts. The said project along with the other initiatives of Mayor Masilang’s administration are also expected to boost the general efforts aimed at providing young Sariayahins with quality public education.

Feast of San Isidro / Agawan sa Sariaya (May 11-15; Sariaya, Quezon).
It is almost the same as the one held in Lucban, only the decoration or Pahiyas consists of fruits, vegetables, candies, breads, and other food either thrown or given to people after the patron saint has passed them. Joyous preparations for the feast of Saint Isidro de Labrador, patron saint of farmers and laborers, begins on the eve of May 14. The best of their crops are hung on the windows, walls, arenas, and young bamboo trees called “Bagakays.” As soon as the procession of the patron saint passes a decorated house, people are allowed to get its crop decor.
